Newspaper Video

from dead trees to moving pictures

My newsroom recently purchased a Canon Vixia HF10...I wish I knew about the difficulty with editing the video files before I bought it. So the Pixela ImageMixer 3SE software the camera comes with saves the files as .i3e or .m2ts. Ok, but now what? I need to supply a clip to a tv station because my paper does a 30-minute news show. The person at the radio station can't open, save or do anything with this file. My Windows Movie Maker doesn't even recognize the files. How do I convert a i3e or m2ts file to something people can open and actually use??????

Those are AVCHD files. You'll need something to transcode them into another format. Voltaic from http://www.shedworx.com/ is one such converter.

I know a video converter can convert m2ts file to normal video files such as mp4, wmv and then you can edit the wmv with windows movie maker.

Hope it helps

Same story... I've recently bought a Canon HF100. Fantastic camcorder BUT the default software is the most paintful and unfriendly way for editing video files... and doesn't even support MAC. I'm glad I've found couple of answers on this forum to translate i3e.m2ts format in normal format! thanks for your tips.
